Kudzu Pack Baskets
Details
Learn to turn the south's most infamous weed into a supremely useful pack basket! In this class we will cover methods for harvest and preparation of kudzu vines, as well as a variety of weave patterns and techniques to make your basket unique. You will also learn to attach naturally-tanned leather straps with copper rivets. We are going to enjoy a wonderful weekend laughing and weaving at this historic riverside location. At the end, you'll wear home a comfortable, beautiful backpack, that's sure to turn some heads!

Bark Hats and Satchels

Details
Learn to work with bark from a variety of wild trees and shrubs and turn it into either a hat or satchel (with a leather lid). Weave intricate twill patterns that bring these pieces alive with the colors and patterns of the wild world. We will enjoy a wonderful weekend laughing and weaving at this historic riverside location.

Kudzu Ribbed Baskets

Details:
Weave traditional Appalachian baskets with kudzu–the most locally abundant and infamous fiber around! Join the lineage of mountain weavers as you create strong, beautiful baskets to be used in everyday life. Learn to harvest and process kudzu vines into fine weaving material, and apply ribbed basketry techniques to weave a hen basket, egg basket, and potato basket.

Twill Satchels at Tear Up Fest

Details
In this 3 day course, we will create stunning Twill Satchels with bark from an assortment of trees and shrubs. Students will weave intricate twill patterns, inspired by historic textiles, with the vibrant colours and textures of wild materials.
The workshop will also cover drafting original twill designs for baskets, processing and preparing bark, as well as how to create and weave on a form. Each participant will carry home a unique and ornate bag to inspire future journeys into the wild!
